Shaw Contract Design Awards 2023: Featuring Living Systems & Space Worx collections. By Zyeta.

A sunny and delightful aesthetic that matches the client’s global standing

 Bangaluru, India

The client: A highly reputed European-origin automobile solutions brand

The client whose India operations are headquartered in Bengaluru needed a new workspace to accommodate its growing workforce.

As a globally respected organization that follows extremely rigorous design standards in the manufacture of its automobiles, it expected the same rigour in the design of all its global offices.

Just as every component is crucial to the overall driving experience, the client expected each element in the office to contribute to joyful productivity.

The challenge further spurred Zyeta, the lead design firm on the project, to take on the assignment.

Design story: People above process

Zyeta’s team keenly studied the client’s requirements to understand its stated and unstated expectations from the project.

The recurring theme in the course of the conversation was about employee wellness in a professional setting. Much brainstorming later, the team arrived at “light” as the anchor theme around which the interior design personality would be developed.

As we all know, light - natural and artificial – has the extraordinary ability to brighten up moods and bring cheer into a space.

A well-designed naturally lit environment provides a psychologically healthy space and physical comfort for employees in a professional setting.

Execution: Connecting inclusivity and emotional wellness

With the design theme and framework in place, the decisions revolved around choosing the right lux parameters of the lighting systems based on daylight, work-station location, and the nature of tasks.

The lighting framework would decide the layout, materials, colour, furniture, and flooring for the office, and they had to harmoniously align with the inclusive design vision.

Other core features included:

* Equitable universality for all users through ramp access, gender-neutral restrooms, and other inclusive features.

* Activity-based neighborhoods, technology integration, and innovation-led zoning to induce agility among teams.

* Visual, spatial, and cognitive experiences through brand graphics, installations, colours, and textures.

* Appropriate choIce of ergonomic furniture and artistic backdrops that address physical, and emotional needs of the users.

For flooring, the design team chose varied styles from Shaw Contract’s Living Systems and Space Worx collections which completed the 360-degree vision it envisaged.

Net result: Safety, wellness, and productivity

The final result is a space that merges functionality with aesthetics into a bright, conducive, and healthy workplace.

Elements that lead to a stress-free and exponentially productive workforce. They not only cater to the mental and neuro-diverse needs of the employees but also create a safe and happy workspace.
