477 Pitt Street, Sydney

Best of Region Winner
Design Inspiration 477 Pitt Street occupies a rare whole-of-island site to the south of Sydney CBD. The 32-storey office tower comprises lobby and associated retail spaces, upper level roof terrace. The design response transforms the appearance and performance of the building by refreshing its interior spaces and services as well as series of ESD initiatives to deliver considerably enhanced sustainability credentials. At ground level, a new building identity and legible arrival sequence are forged through a series of intelligent, strategic interventions. A landscape threshold provides respite to Pitt Street, while a veranda introduces space for curated activities, public art and informal meetings. A sitting room adjacent to the lobby provides welcoming areas for tenants to work, meet and collaborate. A wellness centre, adjacent to a north-facing elevated terrace, enhances amenity for the building’s users. A repurposed heritage building has been transformed into an event zone for the building’s vibrant tech community to hold workshops and functions. We used Shaw Contract's carpet plank for our ‘sitting room’ inset carpets as an anchor to this large quiet space, in contrast to the busy terracotta tiled ‘Verandah’ foyer space. The carpet feels welcoming, luxurious and yet playful, and provides acoustic relief.
What a fantastic hub for the community to enjoy. It’s so lovely to see a warm, textual and relaxing palette that shy’s away from the predictable greys and whites.”

Extraordinary Collection
Disrupt the design process. Feel what's around you. Leave no material unused. Create a sensory experience. Rethinking the process of carpet construction, we discovered something extraordinary. What once was waste becomes an essential ingredient. Long strands of excess yarn are typically sheared. Seeing raw beauty, we reimagined this material to create a topographic terrain and exaggerated texture to provoke your sense of touch.
