Project Description

Set in the old “Magic City” of Birmingham, AL is the young University of Alabama- a story of classical meets contemporary. Likewise, the interior of Ascend, a student apartment building, was designed to reinterpret classical forms in a modern way, juxtaposing vibrant materials with large-scale graphic pattern against materials that feel old and worn with time. Using classical novels as a guide, we replicated storybook themes, motifs, settings, and characters to create a space that allows for discovery and excitement around every corner. Each amenity offers students an opportunity to stay active, restore, focus, or socialize in a setting that aesthetically supports each function.
