Hill's Pet Nutrition

People + Pet Friendly
by Perspective Architecture + Design
Hill’s Pet Nutrition decided to move their headquarters to Kansas City from Topeka in 2023. They desired a state of the art, pet friendly, employee first environment that embodied their sustainability goals as a company. The employee and pet experience was at the forefront of every decision made during planning, design and construction.
Sustainability in Every Detail
Hill's Pet Nutrition will be the first Well Platinum certified project in the state of Kansas in addition to being LEED Gold Certified. The renovation utilized the Shaw Contract Reclamation program, re[TURN], which reclaims and recycles EcoWorx backed carpet to make more EcoWorx carpet products at no cost to the customer.
I appreciated that this design caters not just to people, but also to dogs allowed in the office,” shares Rebecca Crosby of CPG Architects. “There are thoughtful details like leash tying stations that include animals in the design. I also really liked the branding. Although primary colors are often avoided in design, especially when used together throughout a space, the blue and red here didn’t lead to color fatigue.

Fostering Collaboration
Employees have a variety of workspaces, lounges, and privacy rooms for flexible working styles. Large break rooms boast as much natural daylight as they do food and beverage options for those looking to relax – there’s even a game room for a bit of play! And plants provide soft green space moments throughout the project.
This project successfully achieves its main purpose: it’s colorful, playful, and designed for both users and their pets. It creates a unique space where you’d be happy to share time with both your pets and your peers. The design really activates its intended purpose well, and for me, it stands out as a successful and engaging space.
