The C30 landmark building, constructed in 1917, stands as a monumental structure in The Hague, exuding the essence of Renaissance and 17th-century Dutch classicism. Recognised as a listed cultural heritage building, it recently underwent a renovation that aimed to blend its historic significance with the future-oriented workspace while prioritising sustainability credentials.

Embracing the concept of "Old on the outside, new on the inside," their goal was to modernise the building's interior while honouring its monumental exterior. The company recognised the historical significance of C30 and aimed to pay homage to its initial status as a model of modernity upon its opening in 1917.

To transform the C30 building into an innovative and sustainable workplace, each floor was assigned a unique theme, complemented by a social meeting place that encouraged both spontaneous and planned interactions. The design at Shaw Contract played a vital design role by developing custom colours for Ornate tile from their Modern Edit collection. This aligned with the brand inspiration of the multinational energy company occupying the building.

Shaw Contract's designers meticulously created custom colours that harmonised with the overall ambiance of each room. The pastel colours of the carpet perfectly complemented the wall paint, lighting, and furniture, fostering a homely atmosphere within the workplace. This intentional design choice aimed to stimulate concentration, encourage innovation, and cultivate an overall positive and comfortable environment.

The multinational company leading the renovation project emphasised the importance of innovation and sustainability, particularly in their mission to work with customers and across sectors to transition to net-zero emissions. They identified circular economy and waste management as key priorities and sought to utilise resources and materials efficiently while increasing reuse and recycling.

These objectives aligned closely with Shaw Contract's core values. Carbon impact, circular economy, and material health are central to Shaw Contract's approach. Shaw Contract’s commitment to sustainable products and the circular economy is exemplified by using an EcoWorx carpet tile and "re[TURN]" reclamation program, which facilitates the recycling of carpet tiles. This program allows the tiles to be repurposed in accordance with the principles of circularity, providing a practical solution for reducing waste.
