Project Description

Originally designed in 1960 by I.M. Pei and formerly the Denver Hilton Hotel, Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel was one of three buildings in the Courthouse Square complex, which also included a department store. Its deeply rooted history and architectural significance of the hotel and former department store in Downtown Denver provided the design team its inspiration for the renovation of 1,150 guestrooms and suites. Two personas cleverly embody the essence of the property: “The Maverick,” which captures the spirit of the 22-story tower building, while “The Maven” reflects the spirit of the lower-rise, former department store – the Plaza Building. These spaces capture the masculine sensibility of the Tower, with its 1960s concrete aggregate and steel construction, and the 1960 steel and glass construction of the Plaza as the feminine counterpart. The design sensibilities create a duality that honors the past souls of each building and pushes forward a timelessness that allows the buildings to “dance” together again for years to come. The design team challenged the typical brand standards in a sophisticated yet playful way infusing the design with color palettes, forms and material details that harken back to a mid-century vibe reinterpreted for a contemporary guest.
